OCTOBER ANNOUCEMENTS
We don’t have a lot of news to report this month. We are busily preparing for World Fantasy 2007 taking place in Saratoga, New York in a couple of weeks (http://www.lastsfa.org/wfc2007/).
If you happen to be attending, look for one of our representatives and say hello!
We are looking forward to a busy schedule during the first week of November as we have finalized our rates for Dealer’s Room and Art Show and will be able to publish them on our website November 1st. We will also have our progress report posted to the website at the same time.
The hotel will start accepting bookings early November so we will be adding their rates to the list of items to be posted to our website in early November.
Actually, it’s our webmaster who is going to be very busy in November keeping up with everything that has to go on our site :)
Don’t forget to check out our podcast. We are currently featuring a reading done by Terry Brooks that was recorded at Dragon*Con at the end of August.
SEPTEMBER ANNOUCEMENTS
WFC 2008 wishes to remind everyone that membership rates go up on October 1st.
Attending membership increases from $100 to $125 USD.
If you haven't purchased your membership yet we encourage you to take advantage of the current lower rate.
We also want to remind everyone that you will need a passport if you are traveling from outside Canada. We have heard rumors that it is taking up to a year in the US to process passport applications, so we suggest applying right away if you do not currently have a valid passport.
Keep an eye on our website at www.worldfantasy2008.org. At the beginning of November we will post hotel rates and booking information, as well as information on our dealers room, artshow, and Souvenir book.
If you've been following our podcasts, our August podcast features an interview with WFC 2008 guest Barbara Hambly. Our September podcast will be posted next week, featuring an interview with publisher Gwen Gades of Dragon Moon Press.
JULY ANNOUCEMENTS
We are gearing up for Calgary’s local Science Fiction/Fantasy convention Con-Version (www.con-version.org ) which will be taking place August 17 – 19.
We also did some pre-planning for the BBQ we will be having September 8th. If you are in the Calgary area we suggest you come. We will have details posted on our website within the week.
For those who wish to purchase memberships in CDN funds not using Paypal we have changed the CDN (only) registration form on our website to reflect the rising Canadian dollar.
We will be meeting with our broker in the last week of July to discuss border crossing for dealers and artists. If you do have any questions or concerns, please let us know, we hope to have packages ready with all questions answered in time for World Fantasy 2007 While we have had lots of interest, we will not be accepting applications for dealers and artist until November 1st 2007.
One thing I will mention, however, is dealers tables will NOT include memberships. I mention this because membership rates go up October 1st so you may want to consider purchasing yours soon (if you haven’t already).
We will not be having an August meeting so there will not be an e-mail then. The time we would normally have this meeting falls too close to our local SF convention’s date and many of the World Fantasy 2008 committee will be involved in that.
Instead we will move our September meeting to the 8th before our BBQ.
check out our podcast where we feature an interview with Evo Terra of Podiobooks.com
JUNE ANnOUNCEMENTS For those who will be in Calgary on September 8th, we will be having a BBQ luncheon.
It will be in the same vein as the Christmas Luncheon. We haven’t got a guest speaker
yet, but keep tuned to the website for more info.
For dealers and artists who are considering coming to WF08. We will be having a meeting with our broker on the last week of July.
If you have any questions or concerns about bringing goods across the border let us know either by e-mail or on our voice mail so we may address them at that time. Knowing how hard it is to cross the border, we want to make it as painless as possible. We want to have everything in place and all questions answered by this year’s World Fantasy.
We will also start accepting applications for Dealers and Artist on November 1st of this year.
Listen to our podcast http://worldfantasy2008.libsyn.com/ in which we interview Dave Duncan.
Price Change The registration prices have gone up as of Monday Oct. 1st
Link Banners and Buttons For those who wish to link to us, there are banners and buttons now available! Check out the new section under publications.
